Short description

This statuette, which was probably meant to form part of an altar, depicts St. George on a rearing horse as he spears the open jaws of the dragon with the lance (which is not the original), which comes out the other side of the dragon’s head. The knight is wearing a curved helmet with a large, rigid brim with four feathers, and is wearing full armour, which is in part hidden by the cloak tied around his shoulders and fluttering in the breeze. The armour on his chest is Roman in style and rather simple. The work is not of exceptional quality but its polychromy is vibrant, and it is consonant with 16th century German artistic production.
