Short description
As far as we know, this prestigious work lacks in replicas and has been generally attributed to Giuseppe Maria Mazza, who was the main Bolognese sculptor of that time. Mazza’s inclination for an elegant representation of his compositions, that are always fluid and harmonious, shows also a strong tension of the human feelings. In spite of some correspondences between this bronze and those of Mazza, the attribution regarding this work from Palazzo di Venezia to the Bolognese sculptor is not persuasive. The anonymous author of this bronze is an artist who got informed about the Bolognese sculpture of the early 18th century, but it is not plausible to identify him with Mazza.
