Short description
Santangelo believed that this bronze was different to the version previously held in the Henkell Collection in Viesbaden, but the identical defects on the legs where errors occurred during founding indicate that they are, in fact, the same work.
Some anatomical features of Hercules, especially his musculature and twisting body, are reminiscent of Stefano Maderno’s bronzes and terracottas held at the Galleria Giorgio Franchetti, housed in the Ca’ d’Oro in Venice.
