Short description
Pollak suggests that this bronze depicts Proserpina and that the scene represents an abduction or another form of persecution. Santangelo, however, believes that the position of the woman's arm suggests an act of invocation, while Martinelli offers a markedly different interpretation, considering the statue as an angel by Camillo Mariani of Vicenza.
This bronze can be attributed to Francesco Mochi, which would mean that the object was probably executed in the first decade of the 17th century and thus later than the date suggested by Martinelli. Mochi's hand is detectable in the angel's dress, characterized by transversal bands and folds, with the drapery hiding the body’s features.
